About the Vaccine Healthcare Centers Network (VHC)
Mission
Enhance vaccine safety, efficacy and acceptability within the Military Health System through programs and services that provide expert clinical consultation, care, safety surveillance, education, and research.
Vision
A collaborative network that provides support for comprehensive state-of-the-art immunization healthcare.
The Vaccine Healthcare Centers Network (VHC) was established in 2001 in response to Congressional concern for ensuring quality vaccine administration and improving surveillance and reporting of adverse reactions in the military. The original effort was a collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Defense (DoD).
Today the VHC is a Department of Defense organization, whose role is to support the military immunization and readiness mission through our expert clinical consultation services, education programs, and research.
Our regional centers are staffed with physicians, nurses, and researchers who are experts in vaccination healthcare. We provide global access to our consultation services via phone or worldwide web, at all times and in any emergency. Our centers strive to improve DoD vaccine safety surveillance, reporting, and outcomes tracking by providing:
- Assistance with Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) reports
- Clinical follow-up
- Educational programs
- Immunization research
The Vaccine Healthcare Centers network collaborates with the Military Vaccine Agency, Medical Treatment Facilities, and government and academic organizations to provide our unique services to the military health system.
